Passed away peacefully on November 21st at Oak Park Senior Living in Stillwater, MN from effects of MSA (multiple systems atrophy). Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Irja Mayala; brothers-in-law, Paddy Isom, David Kashner, Ronald Stowers, John Fippinger, David Todd; and parents-in-law, Tex and Geneva Todd. Survived by loving wife of 55 years, Carol (nee Todd) Mayala; sisters, Anita Isom and Rita (Leroy) Hollingsworth; sisters-in-law, Betty Kashner, Sandra Stowers, Sharon Fippinger, Carol Todd; brother-in-law, Gordon Todd; loving nieces and nephews; relatives in Finland; and many good friends. Arne was born in Barron, Wisconsin, raised in Waukegan, Illinois, and came to Minnesota to join 3M Company in 1956 after serving four years in the U.S. Navy, and then graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from 3M in 1981. This early retirement fueled his interest in antique collecting and restoration, and collector cars and pocket watches. Arne loved his family, and along with Carol took great pleasure in providing a warm and happy home to many kittys and puppies through the years. He was an excellent skier, enjoyed pheasant hunting, car shows, and especially tap dancing movies. Grateful thanks to the memory care staff at Oak Park Senior Living, Bluestone Medical, and St. Croix Hospice for their gentle and compassionate care. Honoring Arne’s wishes there will be a private burial service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to share memories and reminisce at The Lowell Inn, 102 N 2nd Street, Stillwater, MN on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. If considering a memorial - St. Croix Hospice, Home for Life Animal Sanctuary or charity of your choice.
