Betty Jean Bird was born to Alonzo and Jeanette Bird on April 11, 1924 in Mandan, North Dakota. During her childhood the family moved to Seattle and then to Butte, Montana where Betty graduated from high school. She then moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where she attended and graduated as a registered nurse from the St. Andrewâ
