Dale Apel, 87, passed away peacefully on July 4th with her family by her side. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dale enjoyed the benefit of loving parents and close friends, some of whom considered each other sisters. She attended the University of Alabama where she was the president of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and attained her bachelors and masters degrees. After graduation, she became a school teacher, initially teaching children of Air Force personnel stationed in Japan, then back in Alabama. She met Philip Apel in Colorado and they were married in 1965. They raised two sons in Denver and Centennial, enjoying countless social gatherings and supporting their children along the way.
Dale was always driven by a purpose. She was a president of the Cancer League of Colorado and spent many years as a volunteer at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Nevada. She loved traveling, and celebrated Christmas with special joy. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents, and is survived by her sons and their families: Philip and Erin Apel, Patrick and Olga Apel, as well as Emilie (24), Patrick (21), Andrew (20), Philip (20), Alex (20), and Adam (6). She will be tremendously missed.
A celebration of Dale's life will be held at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, 2175 1st Street, White Bear Lake, MN 55110, on Sunday, July 28th at 3pm. There will also be a memorial service at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 8:40am on August 5th. Donations may be made to a charity of preference.
