Preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Eva (Olson) Swanson, twin brother Donald, and brother Robert. Survived by his wife of 49 years Sally; daughter Pamela (Tony) Scherer; son Scott (Lori); grandchildren Kristi, Cheryl, and Sean Meister, Serena and Logan Swanson; great granddaughter Abagail Boullt; sister Judith (Gene) Grabow; sisters-in-law Allegra Swanson and Marcelyn Swanson; and many nieces and nephews. After serving two years in the Army he joined the US Postal Service retiring after 34 years of Superintendent of Postal Operations at Stillwater. David was active in his church being an usher for 50 years and a Sunday school teacher for 20 years. He was active in his community by being the Parade Chairman for Lumberjack Days for 22 years. The Boy Scouts for over 20 years. The Stillwater American Legion Post 48 for 30 years. Stillwater Chamber of Commerce for 5 years. Stillwater Parking Commission for 6 years. One of the founding members of the Stillwater Veterans Memorial. David liked to keep a low profile and preferred to work in the background. He was quite proud that he ran the Lumberjack Days Parade for 18 years before the newspapers found out that he was the chairman. He was a Cub Scout/Webelos leader for several years and sat on the Indianhead Council Activities for two years. He served as Commander, Finance Officer, Adjutant, Membership, Officer, House Committee and publisher of the American Legion newsletter. David was awarded the District Award of Merit in 1972, LaCroix District Service Award in 1979, the prestigious Silver Beaver Award from the Indianhead Council in 1980, Legionnaire of the Year 1988, Karl Neumeier Award for 1992 รข
