Donald Fredric Dunlap was born in St. Paul, MN, on December 20, 1930. He passed away peacefully on June 29, 2020 at his home in Stillwater, MN. Preceded in death by baby Diane; and son, James. Survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Claire; brother, Robert; sister, Joanne Morrisette; children, Mary Rudeen, Scott, Wendy (Kent) Grandlienard, Dr. Michelle, Catherine (Braden) Simonet; grandchildren, Angela, Daniel, Ross, Neal, Emily, Claire, Monica, Megan, Stephen, Joseph, Payton and Wyatt; great grandchildren, Johnaton, Blake, Addison, Elaine and Riley; nieces and nephews, loving relatives and friends. Don served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Unisys after 35 years as an Electrical Engineer. Don enjoyed designing, building and remodeling homes. He also enjoyed fixing anything electrical or mechanical, gardening and cooking. He enjoyed photography, oil painting and designing stained glass windows. He was a “jack of all trades” and always available to help anyone that asked. He taught his children and grandchildren many of these skills. He was a private pilot who loved his time flying. Don was a member of the Masons and served as Eastern Star Worthy Patron with his wife serving as the Worthy Matron. Don was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. He designed a stained glass window that the children of the church built. He had a heart of gold, an infectious laugh. Don loved a good joke. His family remembers him for his quick wit, sharp sense of humor and no-nonsense approach to life. He wrote poetry for his family and friends. He was kind, generous and a loyal friend that people gravitated to. We remember his smile and his love of food. Don had been fighting cancer for many years and can now finally rest. Through all of his illnesses he never complained and was always thankful that his doctors had many treatment options for him. A sincere thank you to Lakeview Hospice; Dr. Franklin Fleming, his long-time physician; and the staff and members of First Presbyterian Church. He will be greatly missed. The family plans a private burial at Acacia Cemetery with military honors. A celebration of his life will be held at church in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to First Presbyterian Church for the children’s programs or Lakeview Hospice.
