Dorothy Ann (White) Scullen, lifelong resident of Stillwater, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the age of 96. Born May 31, 1927, in Stillwater to Eugene and Helen Claire (Hynes) White, Dorothy attended St. Michael's Catholic School and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1945. Proud of her time as a lab technician at Maple Island, she went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Myron "Mike" Scullen, on November 15, 1947. Together, they raised 7 children. Dorothy lived a faith filled life, believing in the power of daily prayer, the Rosary, and her family. She was a member of St. Michael's Altar and Rosary Society, a Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer, election judge, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
When she wasn't at church, you could find her tending to her garden or in the kitchen baking bread and cookies - her cookie jar was never empty. An avid knitter and skilled in needlework, she crafted hundreds of blankets, mittens, and dish towels for her family. She taught us all the value of consistency - making a new Christmas ornament for her grandchildren every year and never missing a birthday card.
Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune were her afternoon entertainment, and she always had a jigsaw puzzle nearby.
Dorothy and Mike were together for 70 years prior to his passing in September 2017. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Patrick (Virginia), Richard (Pearl) and Charles White; sister, Jean Gillen and daughter-in-law, Debra Schroeder Scullen, Joel Ziemek. As part of the Scullen family, she is also preceded in death by her in-laws; Clementine (Albert Philips), Bernice (Irv Hemenway), Carol (Harry Campbell), Earl (Helen) Scullen, Grace (Joseph Hosch), Palma (William Pratt), Joyce (Don Smith) (George Worden), Warren (Pauline) (Darlene) Scullen.
Dorothy is survived by her children; Robert (Gina), Martha (Melvin) Metz, David (Christine), Rosemary (Alan) Hofer, James, Joan (Ed) Ziemek, and Raymond (Julie); and as she was always proud to note - 26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; Lucy Lau, her great-great-granddaughter, brother-in-law, Theodore Gillen, special cousin, Kathy Henjum, many nieces, nephews, and friends throughout her church and community.
