Dorothy Frances (Scott) Simonet

July 30, 1926 — September 20, 2023

Dorothy Frances Simonet, at ninety-seven years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep during the evening of September 20, 2023. Preceded in death by her parents, Francis J and Margaret M. Scott and husband William B Simonet, she will be deeply missed by her surviving children Anne (Bill), Bill, Lucy (Tim), Matthew (Melisa), Sarah (David), eight grandchildren and one great grandson. Affectionately known as "Scotty" to those who loved her, she was born Dorothy Frances Scott, on July 30, 1926, in Bemidji, MN. As her dad worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs when she was growing up, Scotty experienced the great outdoors on Native American reservations across the United States. Along with her sister, Peg, Scotty's childhood and early teenage years were marked by great adventures in fishing, caring for injured dogs, and hiking across spectacular natural landscapes in Minnesota, Florida, Arizona, and New Mexico. During her late teenage years, Dorothy's great adventures only increased when she attended the University of Minnesota and fell in love with the love of her life, her faithful husband of some sixty-two years, William B. Simonet. Despite the full-time job of raising five kids, Scotty was recognized as a Master Gardner by the Minnesota Horticultural Association and vigorously participated in the Stillwater Perennial Garden Club. The City of Stillwater recognized her for her outgoing character when she rode in the parade as the Lumberjack Days Grande Dame and allowed her residence to be viewed as part of the Stillwater Parade of Homes. Every day had excitement for Scotty: if she was not playing golf, dancing at Quadrille, or traveling the world, she was hanging with her beloved Bridge Club, affectionately known as "The Girls". Scotty also could be found acting as Girl Scout leader, out selling cookies along with her Scouts, or acting as a school lunchroom monitor, where she was responsible for preventing food fights. During her final days, Dorothy had many people visit her. They shared with her the excitement and love of life that she had shown them during their time together. On behalf of Dorothy, we, her family, thank each and every visitor who visited her during her final days. We especially thank the staff at The Lakes and at The Hospice of the Midwest for the love and care shown Mom every day and, in every way, while she resided there. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Church of St. Michael, 611 S. Third St., Stillwater, MN 55082 with visitation one hour prior to the Mass in the church atrium. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery in Bayport, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
