Douglas A. Swanson

Douglas A. Swanson, age 70, of Stillwater, passed away peacefully at his home on May 21, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Stillwater to Herbert and Elizabeth Swanson and grew up in Bayport. Doug graduated from Stillwater High School and from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was later employed by the City of Stillwater as a police officer. Preceded in death by his father, Herbert. Survived by his wife of fifty years, Faith (Foster); children, Angie (Brett) Gorres, Lia Scamehorn (Chad Blight), Carrie (Jeff) Kram, Douglas (Carly Voshell), and Ellen (Chris McLaird) Swanson; grandchildren, Evan, Faith, Joseph, Emelia, Natalie, Philip, Cecilia, Anna, Foster, Hope and Elizabeth; mother, Elizabeth; siblings, Sally Thomas, Brad (Kim) and Lindy; extended family and friends. Doug was a history buff and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and all sports; his favorite team being the Minnesota Gophers. He was very proud of his family. His best days were spent surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26 at Church of St. Charles, 409 N Third Street, Bayport, MN 55003. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave N., Stillwater, MN 55082 and also one hour prior to the Mass at church. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Bayport. Memorials preferred to Church of St. Charles, American Cancer Society or donor’s choice.
