Gene Samuel Kelley, DDS

Gene Samuel Kelley, age 87, of Stillwater, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Boutwells Landing. Gene was born on March 27,1937 to George and Ellen Kelley. He grew up in Garden City, MN and graduated from high school in 1955. He went to Mankato State for his undergraduate degree and then on to the University of Minnesota for dental school. He married Barbara Chadwick in 1960. After graduating from dental school they moved to North St Paul and then Grant, MN where they raised their three sons on their hobby farm.

Gene practiced dentistry in North St Paul for 38 years and after retiring became an instructor of the U of M Dental School. Gene was known for his culinary skills, always creating his own recipes by combining unusual ingredients that left us wondering how the result could taste so good. His mom taught him to make amazing bread and sweet rolls and you could always hear him singing away as he worked. He loved telling stories and sharing memories and with his keen sense of humor he was quick to tease family, friends, and even new acquaintances. He was always busy on the farm and loved raising thoroughbred horses for racing. In addition, he enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Gene is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons, Dave (Susie), Tim (Lori), and Sam (Katie); grandchildren, Jack (Caroline), Deven (Patrick) Evans, Max, Reid, Aubrey, Quinn, Teagan Wewers, Thomas, and Tanner; great-grandchildren, Rainey, Sunny, and Storm Evans.

Preceded in death by his two brothers, Guy and Fred, and sister, LeAnn.

Special recognition to the friends made, and the staff of Boutwells Landing and Croixdale.

Funeral service will be at Noon on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Ascension Episcopal Church, 214 3rd Street N, Stillwater, MN 55082. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Luncheon following. Memorials to donor's choice.
