Glenn "Bob" Maurer, 87, died peacefully on Feb. 24 in Bayport, MN. Bob, the son of Elmer and Grace Maurer, was born on September 12, 1923, in Beauford, Minnesota. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1940 and enrolled in Mankato State Teachers' College where he met his wife, Ginny (Brosnan). He interrupted his college education to serve for three years as a pilot in the Marine Corps. He received his undergraduate degree in Education from MSTC in 1947 and later a Master's Degree in Education Administration from the University of Minnesota. Bob began his teaching career in 1947 at Bayport Junior High. He became principal of Bayport Elementary School in 1961 then served as principal of Oak Park Elementary School from 1967-1986. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bayport, the Stillwater Country Club, the Stillwater Lions, the American Legion, and served on the Bayport Library and Foundation Board. Bob is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Ginny, and his baby great-grandson, Leif Peder Schwalm. He is survived by his children Cady Schwalm (Bob) and Scott Maurer (Lorie), and his grandchildren Cale Schwalm (Anna), Maggie Kirkwood (Joe), Riley Schwalm (Dana), and Emily, Matt, and Molly Maurer. A celebratory memorial service is planned for Monday, March 21, 7:00 PM, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bayport, preceded by visitation from 5:30 - 7:00. A private interment will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Bayport in April. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Bayport Library Foundation or donor's choice.
