Iva Bentzin, the daughter of George and Margaret (Halfpop) Christie was born June 13, 1928 in Goodell, Iowa. She and her brother, Charles, were raised on a farm. She graduated from Klemme High School (Klemme, Iowa) in 1945 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Drake University in 1949. She taught elementary school in Fort Dodge, Iowa; Modesto, California and Mason City, Iowa. She married William (Bill) Bentzin on July 6, 1958 in Wallingford, Iowa. The couple had one child, Kimberly. Iva retired from teaching to raise Kim and maintained many interests throughout her life including antiquing, gardening, reading, playing the piano and traveling. She and her husband Bill lived in Duluth, St. Paul, and Edina, Minnesota and Upper Montclair, New Jersey. For the past 22 years, they lived in a Victorian home in Stillwater, Minnesota which they enjoyed renovating and restoring. Iva died on Thursday, January 22, 2015 in Stillwater, Minnesota. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Bill of Stillwater; her daughter, Kim and husband, Jim O’Connell of Lake Elmo, MN; many nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. Iva was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, nephews Jesse Christie and Denny Bentzin and sisters-in-law Mardell Murrow, Minnie Bentzin and Irene Bentzin. The family of Iva Bentzin would like to express its appreciation to the many people who were so kind and thoughtful to her while she was in care facilities and the hospital.
