John "Jack" A. Terhaar, age 77 of Somerset, WI, died October26, 2023. Jack was born on November 18, 1945 in St. Cloud, MN to John and Yvette (Huisentruit) Terhaar. He grew up on the family farm west of New Munich, MN and graduated from Melrose High School. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an aviation storekeeper with the VF-154 Fighter Squadron during the Vietnam War. Jack was united in marriage to Brigitte "Gitte" Zobel, and the couple was blessed with a daughter, Heidi. For most of his career, Jack worked as a mechanic with Northwest Airlines. After retirement, he continued to work part time at First Lutheran Church in New Richmond as a maintenance specialist.
Jack was a quiet and caring man who would help anyone that truly needed help. He loved spending time with his family, and was extremely fond of his grandchildren. Jack enjoyed traveling to places across the country, gardening and taking care of his small hobby farm in Somerset. He still had the plane he flew as a hobby in his younger days and was delighted by the memories of his days as a skydiving instructor.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife Brigitte; grandson Sam; father John Terhaar; and mother Yvette Terhaar. He is survived by his daughter Heidi Leedom (Bob Bischoff); grandson Jady; friend Susan Bischoff; siblings Mike and Mary; and many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at 4:00 pm, followed by a visitation from 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave. N., Stillwater. Memorials preferred to the donor's choice.
