Joseph G. O'Brien, passed away peacefully on Oct. 6th 2018. Born, Jan. 1st, 1928, he was the fourth of five children to Joseph and Loretto Simonet O'Brien. Joseph attended the College of St. Thomas and was signed to play baseball for the New York Yankees farm team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Soon after, Joseph served in the Korean War. He married Mary McCarthy O'Brien in 1960. Joseph worked at Simonet Furniture Company for many years. He was also a life-long member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Joseph's quick wit and sincere nature will be deeply missed by his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Leo Simonet; and four siblings, James O'Brien, William L. O'Brien, Mary Modesta O'Brien Forbes, and Maureen O'Brien Palmer. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; and six children; daughters, Mary O'Brien Black (Steve), Colleen O'Brien (Tom Peterson), Ann O'Brien Butterfield (Todd), and sons, Joseph Jr., Daniel (Mary Kay), and David. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Church of Saint Michael, 611 S. 3rd St., Stillwater, MN 55082 with a visitation one hour prior in the church atrium. Burial will be at St. Michael's cemetery, Bayport, MN. Memorials preferred to the St. Croix Catholic School Endowment Fund. May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm across your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
