Lyle Emerson Peterka died peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by sons Greg and Dave; wonderful daughters-in-law Dianne and Debby; beautiful grandchildren Jason and his wife Carrie, Cameron, Melissa, and Mitchell; adorable great-grandchildren Chloe and Hunter; brother Howard; sister-in-law Arlene Douglas; special friend Carrie Howes. Lyle also leaves many close life-long friends. Lyle fulfilled a life-long career in engineering and manufacturing management at 3M with extensive international travel, retiring after 34 years in 1982. Lyle was an alumnus of South Dakota State University and University of Minnesota. He served for three years in the Navy receiving a commission in the US Navy Reserve in March 1945; he was a US Navy Captain of MS-179, a minesweeper, in 1946 at age 24. Lyle shared a loving marriage with his high school sweetheart, Florence, who preceded him in death. They were married on September 3, 1947 for 49 marvelous years. He is dancing with her now. Visitation Sunday, December 17th 3-6 p.m. at SIMONET FUNERAL HOME, 6429 Osgood Ave N., Stillwater and one hour prior to service at Church. Funeral Services Monday, December 18th, 11 a.m. at St. Croix Valley United Methodist Church in Lakeland. Interment Hazelwood Cemetery, Bayport. Special thanks to the staff at Croixdale and the Visiting Angels. Memorials preferred to Lakeview Hospice and the Florence L. (Hines) Peterka Scholarship at the South Dakota State University Foundation.
