Born in St. Paul December 8, 1930, Mac grew up in St. Paul and attended Central High School before joining and serving in the U.S. Navy from 1948 – 1952 including time as a seaman on the USS Preserver in the Atlantic Ocean. Raised to have a strong work ethic and be self-sufficient, he married Helen, his life-long guardian angel and unconditional supporter June 26, 1954. Working two full-time jobs for more than 20 years to support Catholic education and other family needs, Mac's career included positions at the U.S. Postal Service and the City of St. Paul Lighting Department while also keeping busy as the owner of various rental properties and a tree farm. Mac took great pride in the success of his children and grandchildren. He loved traveling throughout the continental U.S. and Canada, especially by camper. A lifelong learner, he had the gift of gab and enjoyed talking endlessly with family, friends and strangers. He was extremely independent and handy, particularly enjoying woodworking. He loved "inventing" new products to make life easier for him and his family and also spent significant time volunteering with his church through “Freebie Construction.” Many thanks to Dr. Thomas Zurbriggen, along with Dr. Ted Haland and the staff at Lakeview Hospital MICU for their genuine support and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Liver Foundation. Mass intentions are appreciated.
