Marcella Fisher

Marcella Fisher, age 89, formerly of Stillwater. Born 23 December 1921 to Eli and Frieda Schrank. Mom graduated from Stillwater HS and earned her teacher's degree from Winona College by working summers and cleaning houses. Her first teaching was a Grant County one room prairie school house teaching 18 students from grades 1-8 in 1943. In mom's 41 year teaching career she inspired and touched the lives of over 1,000 young souls. Four years ago mom had a "routine" surgery, expecting to be home in 3 days. Things went horribly bad. Mom nearly passed and spent the next 9 weeks in ICU. But God had a plan for mom. Leaving ICU, mom didn't know her name or where she was. Six more weeks in the hospital and her body began to strengthened. We moved her to Martin Luther Manor where the recovery continued. Mom practiced her writing and other mental and physical exercises daily until it returned to pre-stroke ability. In the last four years I visited mom almost daily. I had the opportunity to serve, to be inspired and learn a lot about her. Hopefully, mom grew to know me deeper also. Robert, loving husband of nearly 50 years preceded mom in death. She is survived by her son Bob; loving granddaughter Hannah; sisters Betty Schmoeckel and Mildred Westcott; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
