Mary Shannon, age 93 of Stillwater, passed away on March 29, 2021. She was born on December 28, 1927 in New York City to Mary and John McDonald. She grew up in Johnstown, N.Y., spending summers in Stockport with her cousins. She graduated from Johnstown High School. After graduation, she worked in bookkeeping at a bank and later as a secretary for General Electric Company. She volunteered as a Red Cross nurse and performed in local community theatre. She met the love of her life, Gerald Shannon, on a blind date in June 1953 and was married October 23, 1954. Five children quickly followed and she followed Gerry through 9 promotions and moves from New York, through Connecticut, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Illinois. Along the way, she completed college courses and worked as a realtor. She retired with Gerry as snowbirds to Florida where they enjoyed boating and sailing on Charlotte Harbor.
Mary was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending holidays with family. She was a loyal "first mate" boating on Long Island Sound, Thousand Islands, the St. Croix River, Lake Michigan, and Charlotte Harbor. She loved attending mass, celebrating St. Patrick's Day and traveling to Ireland.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Gerald; children, Tim, Terry, Patty, Kathleen, and Tom; grandchildren, Amy, Gracie, Kate, John, and Sean.
Preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary; sister-in-law, Dorothy, brother-in-law, James Flansburg.
A private, Catholic mass and burial is planned.
