Mary ‘Jeanne’ Crowe Bloomington, Minnesota Formerly of Chicago, Illinois Died peacefully on December 28, 2018. Born July 10, 1929 in Chicago, IL, Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Francis Crowe, her loving parents, Charles and Lucille Griffin, sisters Barbara Griffin and Patricia ‘Pat’ White (Robert White), all of Chicago, IL. Survived by her two daughters, Ann Clare (Steve) Heimerman and Nora Crowe; two grandchildren, Emily Heimerman and Matthew Heimerman of Lake Elmo, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving friends and family. Jeanne graduated from Marian University, Indianapolis, IN with a BA in English and began teaching elementary school on the U.S. Air Force base in San Antonio, TX while her husband Dennis was stationed there. After serving, Dennis and Jeanne returned to the Chicago area and Jeanne began teaching at St. Norbert Catholic School in Northbrook, IL. A few years later, Jeanne and Dennis relocated to Cleveland, OH and then to Minnetonka, MN where they raised their two children. While living in Minnetonka, Jeanne worked as a substitute teacher in the Minnetonka public schools. She was a lifelong learner, taking graduate coursework at the University of St. Thomas and The Loft Literary Center. Jeanne was an advocate and active volunteer for causes related to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She served on many non-profit boards and community organizations where she worked to develop and enhance legislation and create community programs to help families living with disabled loved ones. She received awards for her work. In addition to her volunteer work, she was employed by the Metropolitan Center for Independent Living (MCIL) and was well known within the Twin Cities’ disability community. She loved to read and collect books and always enjoyed spending time in art museums, conservatories and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Jeanne is best known for her love of learning and her warm and kind heart. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Church of St. Edward, 9401 Nesbitt Ave. S, Bloomington, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. Donations may be made in her name to The Arc Minnesota, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, or your local library.
