Nelson, Randall E.
(Bud)
December 4, 1929 -May 4, 2021
Passed away surrounded by loved ones Tuesday, May 4th, 2021.
God must have needed a man with big thick callused hands and a kind, gentle, loving heart so he called Bud home to help on the farm.
Always fair and honest in everything he did, he loved his life and lived it fully. It was full of hard work, deep friendships, love and laughter. He filled his days with fun-whether it be tennis, volleyball, ping pong, or cards -he was always the first to suggest a game. His character was larger than life. He left a mark on anyone who was lucky enough to meet him. The family he leaves behind adored him, not just for the love he showed them, but for the example he set.
Bud was a husband, a brother, a son, a father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was the third of four children, born in 1929 in Afton, MN to Ruth and Archie Nelson. He leaves behind his wife Micky, of 67 years, five children, Julie, Kathy, Kristi and Joni (Keith) Randy (Julie) and 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and sister, Harriet (John) McPherson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Nelson (MIA Korea) and one sister, Pat (Keith) Schmidt.
Bud lived and worked his entire life in Afton on his dairy farm, Croixview Farm. He was a graduate of Stillwater High School. Throughout his life he had a lasting love for the farming community.
He enjoyed life and truly knew how to be happy. If there was one thing to learn from time spent with Bud, it was to appreciate the little things. To enjoy every day and take time to reminisce on days well spent. In a conversation three weeks before he passed, he looked back on his life and said, "it has been nice, real nice."
The family would like to extend a Thank you to the hospice team and Lakeview hospital. A special thank you to nurse Anne, Tina and Lindsey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview hospice.
A private family graveside service will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. The family will host a Celebration of Life visitation on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 12 - 2 p.m. at Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave. N., Stillwater, MN 55082.
