Kilty, Richard S. Nov. 30, 1925 – Sept. 18, 2016 Born in Stillwater, MN Son of Reginald Kilty and Joan (Gunlaugson) Kilty. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan K O’Brien. As a child of the depression and World War II, he embodied the common virtues of that generation; duty, honor, service, responsibility and economy. He graduated from St. Michael’s School in 1940 and from Stillwater High School, Class of 1944. He was called to duty in 1944 and served aboard the USS Hyades in the Pacific. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1950, with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. While in college he was a member of the U of M 1948 NCAA Championship track team and the 1949 Big Ten Championship track team as a distance runner. In 1958 he began a 30 year career with the heavy construction company, Peter Kiewit Son’s Co. on highway projects located from MT to MA. His heart never left the family home on Oak Street, which he has called home since 1929. He never married and is survived by four nieces, one nephew, one great-niece and one great-nephew. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Church of St. Michael, 611 S. 3rd St., Stillwater, MN. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave. N., Stillwater, MN and also one hour to the Mass at the church. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Bayport, MN. Memorials preferred to the Church of St. Michael Building Fund.
