He was born on February 17, 1941. He was a lifelong resident of Stillwater where he dedicated his life to serving the community. Dick worked tirelessly to advance the goals of many charitable and religious organizations and was recently named as a 2007 recipient of the "Distinguished Alumni Award" for Stillwater Area High School. Dick's commitment to volunteerism included work for the United Way of Minneapolis; the Indianhead Council, Boy Scouts of America; the Church of St. Mary in Stillwater where he led the major renewal and renovation of the church in 1989; Board of Directors of Dunrovin; Washington County Public Health Advisory Committee; the completion of the Veteran's Memorial, and most recently on the Board of Directors for the Stillwater Public Library where he championed the major renovation and expansion of this historic facility. After graduating from Stillwater High School in 1959, Dick went on to graduate with high honors from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in business administration. He came back to Minnesota to work for Aurthur Andersen Co., retiring as a senior partner in 1997. Dick was also a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. A gifted musician, Huelsmann started playing the organ for St. Mary's Church when he was 12 years old. He continued to play for Sunday Mass for more than 50 years. Dick enjoyed golfing, boating, skiing, and horses and enjoyed these past times with his many friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nora Huelsmann, and is survived by his sister Mary Huelsmann and brother Tom (Mary Clare) Huelsmann, all of Stillwater. Dick was beloved by his nieces and nephews: Rob Danielson of Stockton, CA; Kris (Pete) Rossiter and baby Henry of Reno, NV; Jenny Huelsmann of Minneapolis, Mike (Anne) Danielson and daughter Toni of Cushing, WI; Melanie (Mike) McNulty of Stillwater; Steve Danielson of San Rafael, CA; and Fred (Kara) Huelsmann of Minneapolis. Mass of Christian Burial 2:00 P.M. Friday May 25, 2007 at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 423 South 5th Street, Stillwater. Visitation Thursday 3-8 P.M. at SIMONET FUNERAL HOME, 6429 Osgood Avenue North, Stillwater with a Rosary at 7:30 P.M. and one hour prior to service at the church. Interment St. Michael's Cemetery, Bayport. Memorials preferred to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to the Stillwater Public Library.
