Robert "Bob" James Fox (aka Foxie), age 87 of Long Prairie, MN, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024 at Cambridge Senior Living in Hudson, WI. Bob was born on December 20, 1936 in St. Paul, MN to Ralph and Alice (Johnson) Fox. He grew up in Woodbury, MN on the family farm. Bob left high school early and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force he also worked hard to obtain his GED.
After being honorably discharged, Bob had multiple driving jobs, including a delivery driver for Schmidt beer. He then pursued a successful career as an over the road truck driver - his favorite job. Bob drove semi for himself and others, including D&T Trucking, Beverage Transportation and Blue Transit.
While on the road working, what he enjoyed most was having his son and co-pilot, from his then wife, Margie, riding with him. As a baby and through Scott's young childhood, they traveled all over the country together.
Towards the end of his career, Bob worked at Gopher Machine in St. Paul, MN where he met his future wife, Norma. The couple was married in June of 1995. Later, they moved to Long Prairie, MN, where they lived out the rest of their time together. Norma and Bob traveled extensively before settling on a little camper in Astor, FL, where they wintered for 20 years. Bob dreaded Minnesota's cold weather and was truly happy enjoying the warmth of Florida; fishing with good friends and bumming around taking in the sights that Florida offered.
A favorite pastime of Bob's was collecting and scrapping metal. He was always looking for a "good deal" on something he probably didn't need but had to have. You could often find Bob in his garage tinkering on projects. He enjoyed sitting in his garage with all of his "good deals" and "resting his eyes" in his favorite chair.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Norma; his parents; and sister Joan (Don) Delander. He will remain in the hearts of his son Scott (Shelly) Fox; Norma's children Lori French, and Keith (Cheri) French; grandchildren Nathan, Austin, Alexis, Jonah, and Adam (Dayna) and his sister Judy (Joel) Eder; and all of his nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 3:30pm on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Bayport American Legion, 263 3rd St N, Bayport, MN. Visitation will be held from 2:30-3:30pm, and a meal will follow the service. Cards for the family may be mailed to the Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave N, Stillwater, MN 55082, to be forwarded.
