Robert Clarence Meisterling

Dr. Robert (Bob) Meisterling passed away on Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 at the age of 69, in the comfort of his home in Stillwater, MN after being diagnosed in 2008 with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Bob lived a fun and colorful life that was filled with wonderful memories. After moving to Stillwater in 1974, Bob co-founded St. Croix Orthopaedics in 1977. It grew to span eastern Minnesota, western Wisconsin, nine hospitals, and included 23 doctors. In addition to his growing practice, he consulted for 3M and was a team doctor for the Stillwater Ponies, River Falls Falcons, St. Paul Saints, and Kansas City Chiefs. After a successful career, Bob retired at the end of 2008. He was later inducted into the St. Croix Valley Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011 for his medical contributions and support of sports. Having an affinity for gardening, Bob spent much of his free-time growing everything from asparagus, to peppers, tomatoes and squash. But what he was most proud of each year were his giant pumpkins. He entered one pumpkin in the Minnesota State Fair and won 9th place in the senior division, weighing in at 400 pounds. Additionally, Bob was a long-time member at Stillwater Country Club, and loved the game of golf, as well as the close friendships he formed with his fellow members. Bob’s greatest love has always been his family. Over the last few weeks, Bob spent time with his children and grandchildren. He watched the orioles and hummingbirds visit his birdfeeders, and enjoyed the beauty of the lake his home overlooks, with his wife, Janet, at his side. Preceded in death by his father, Robert; and mother, Ruth. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Janet; four children, Michael (Dionne) Meisterling, Steven (Hailee) Meisterling, Lori (Leon) Thomas, and Julie (Michael) Friend; thirteen grandchildren, Stephanie, Rochelle, Gabriel, Sabrina, Augustus, Alex, Luke, Sophia, Benjamin, Charles, Grace, Avery, and Robert; brother, Richard (Mary) Meisterling and sister, Marian (Rick) Schilling; and last, but not least, Jack (on the rocks) Daniels. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 423 S. 5th St., Stillwater, MN 55082. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Simonet Funeral Home, 6429 Osgood Ave N., Stillwater, MN 55082 as well as one hour prior to the Mass at church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Rutherford cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Blazeman Foundation for ALS or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
