Roger passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, while running, which was his lifelong passion. He was born on October 2, 1943, in Minneapolis, the son of Byron and Anne (Uhan) Carlson. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Benilde High School. He often spent time with family in Eveleth. Roger married his best friend, Sally Buttenhoff on January 25, 1964. The couple enjoyed 44 years of marriage until Sally’s death on June 26, 2008. Roger was a proud retiree of Operating Engineers Local 49. In the early 1980’s he was ordained in the Catholic Church as a Deacon. He touched many lives through his pastoral ministries. Another of his passions was cheering for his beloved Gopher hockey team and all Minnesota sporting teams. He was an avid participant in marathons and triathlons. Roger was the ultimate fan of his granddaughter, Marissa Rossi. Roger is survived by his two sons, Frank and Guy (Michelle); granddaughter, Marissa Rossi; sisters, Marilyn and Marcia Carlson (Sheila Heskin); brother, David (Lenore) Carlson; special friend Alexa, many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sally, parents, and sister, Peggy. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015, with visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2015, and also for one hour prior to the Mass all at the Church of St. Michael, 611 South 3rd Street, Stillwater. Interment will be at the Eveleth Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
